The Most Important Relationship

The most important relationship in our lives is our relationship with God, our Creator and our Judge.

As our Creator, God has shown us how we should live. He expects us to follow the Maker’s instructions. These are set out in His Word, the Bible. His moral law is also implanted within each one of us, in our consciences.

Death is not the end of human existence. We will all one day be judged by God. That judgment will decide our eternal destiny. Human relationships only last a lifetime. Our relationship with God will matter for eternity.  We cannot afford to ignore the Most Important Relationship of All. So please read to the bottom of this page and think about what is said.

The Perfect Relationship

God created the first man and woman, Adam and Eve, in His image. They were designed to be in a perfect, harmonious, loving relationship with Him.

We call that perfect state Paradise and that is what it was. Adam and Eve were physically, spiritually, psychologically and emotionally whole. Their relationships with God, with each other and with the natural world around them were all perfect.

The Relationship Broken

Sadly, human beings have broken that perfect relationship with God. Our first parents, Adam and Eve, disobeyed God. Their sin led to broken relationships with God and with other people. It also affected the whole of creation. God’s perfect world was spoiled. Disease, decay, pain, death and judgment entered the world.

As Adam and Eve’s descendants, we have inherited their rebellious, disobedient nature. We do not want to obey God or have anything to do with Him. Instead of being in a perfect relationship with God, we are alienated from Him, His enemies and under His judgment. We are headed for an eternity separated from God, the source of all love, beauty, goodness and joy.  Without God, we are in big trouble.

The Relationship Restored

The good news is that God himself has taken the initiative to restore our relationship with Him.   God loves us so much that He was prepared to sacrifice the most precious thing He had to rescue us from the consequences of our own sin.

God’s Son, Jesus, came into the world to save us by taking the punishment we deserved for our rebellion and disobedience. He did this on the cross at Calvary.

A Personal Relationship

Because of what Jesus has done, we can have a personal relationship with God as our heavenly Father. This happens when we turn from our sin and trust in Jesus as our Lord and Saviour. We are born again, entering into a new spiritual life as a member of God's family.

Not only is our relationship with God restored but we are given the power to restore our relationships with other people, through Christian love and forgiveness. We are also given new hope that, after death, we will not face judgement but will be united with God forever.
